Kasumigaura Kokusai G.C. in Ibaraki

Kasumigaura Kokusai G.C.

The scale of the course will leave you with a lasting impression. I have never come across a course in any country that makes me feel small. This course did just that! That's not to say its just wide open, the entire course, from bunkers to greens, is just large! I almost expected to be confronted by giants playing the course with large stones for balls, big trees for clubs and buckets for cups! (All the cups are regulation size). Some of the bunkers look small at a distance, but get in one and you can't even see the green!

The first hole no.1 sets the tone with a par 4 dog-leg left that after a good drive left me with a 220yard approach!! It doesn't look that far, but the scale of the whole thing (bunkers and green) makes it feel much closer. Water can be found on half the holes with #9,11,15 and 18 requiring you to carry your shots over large expansive sparkling pond/lakes.

This is one of the few courses in Japan that allows you to drive your carts on pretty much the entire course (except greens). Foursomes receive two carts and you are set free to roam wherever the golf gods take you, which, can be a ways if your partner sticks to the opposite side of the course you do.
